Discussion about Les Baxter - Baxter's Best
Nirad
Not Les Baxter's "best," but what Capitol felt was commercial enough to compile into a volume fitting for its "Star Line," a program of greatest hits albums. While Les did have important chart hits -- "The Poor People of Paris," "I Love Paris," "Quiet Village" -- that are included here, he was principally an album artist, and it is among the minor album tracks that one finds the innovative genius for which he is appreciated in posterity. Nevertheless, this is a decent collection of Baxter's more mainstream material, initially issued in monophonic and duophonic versions; the "ST" electronically re-channeled version did not come out until 1969.
